A uniquely identifiable piece of inventory, also known as a part number or SKU, an item can be raw materials, fluids, component parts, subassemblies, finished assemblies, packaging, etc. It is usually differentiated by form, fit, or function. Items that are painted different colors are generally viewed as different items.
