Commercial Transport Strengthens the Logistics and Supply Chain of Dubai

Dubai's commercial transport sector recorded 26% growth in 2022, contributing nearly $4.3 billion (AED 16.1 billion) to the city’s economy. The continuous growth over the last few years has reinforced the city as a major logistics hub.

The transport sector plays a vital role in aiding the continuous and uninterrupted flow of goods and global supply chains.

There are currently over 7,000 operating companies within this sector, employing nearly 242,000 individuals and covering 300,000 registered commercial vehicles. These numbers justify the 26% CAGR achieved in 2022, compared to a 16% growth rate in 2021.

Quoting the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, “The commercial and logistical transport sector contributes about $ 4.38 billion (AED16.1 billion) to Dubai’s economy, with $2.31 billion(AED8.5 billion) constituting direct contributions and $ 2.07 billion (AED7.6 billion) accounting for indirect contributions.”

The Road Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai is committed to promoting the sector’s growth. It aspires to establish Dubai as one of the top 3 economic cities in the world and create positive social impacts in logistics and various other sectors.

To achieve this goal, the authority has launched several initiatives and projects. These include:

1. Establishing best practices for transportation and logistics
2. Executing regulations concerning 83 transportation and leasing activities
3. Undertaking a digital adoption project to improve the segment’s efficiency.

The RTA will also be joining hands with the private sector to construct three rest areas of 226,000 square meters that can house nearly 500 trucks and heavy vehicles. This will help reduce the incidents of driver fatigue, and accidents caused due to long hours of continuous driving.

Additionally, the authority will be establishing 16 rest stops for trucks along Dubai’s busy roads to avoid the issues of traffic congestion and parking in unauthorized areas.

The Dubai Government’s vision, infrastructure and policies on transportation and logistics make it one of the hottest destinations in the world for unbeaten connectivity and smooth flow of goods and services.
